Contest an encoding
Does a position seem to you wrongly recorded, wrongly encoded or wrongly costed? Write to us through the form. Every request is examined, and every correction is published.
Who can contest
Campaign teams first: they know their programme. But also any reader who spots an error. The simplest way is to start from the page concerned: its “Contest this encoding” link opens the form with the page already filled in.
What to send
- The position: the candidate and the lever, or the address of the page.
- What is contested: the quote, the lever it is filed under, the direction of change, the encoding (value, effective date) or the costing.
- The source: the passage of the programme or statement on which the correction is based, with the document, the page or the link. A position that has been missed (“not addressed” when the programme does cover it) is reported in the same way.
- The correction requested, in one or two sentences.
- Who is writing: for a campaign team, your position. Also say whether you agree to your text being published on the page.

What we do with it
- We aim to reply within 7 days. During the examination, a page contested by a campaign team says so at the top.
- If the request is well founded, the page is corrected, its version number goes up and the correction is entered in the errata, dated, with its reason.
- If it is not, we explain why, quoting the text and the rule of the method applied.
- Right of reply: with the campaign team’s agreement, its text is published on the page, as is, followed by our reply. We do not publish it if it is abusive or unrelated to the position. A reader’s message is never published under their name.
What does not change on request
- The method and the cost schedule apply to everyone. A correction to the cost schedule applies to all candidates at once, never to just one.
- We cost what the published text says. A clarification given by message does not replace the programme: if it is public (updated programme, statement by the candidate), it can become a cited source.
- The right of reply provided for by law for online services remains open, in addition to this procedure.
